History & Mission
October 30, 1973, to present
As we reflect upon more than fifty years of credit union service, Messiah recognizes that through the prosperous and slow times, God and our membership have helped us to succeed.
Messiah Baptist Church Federal Credit Union was the vision of the late Reverend Harry L. Batts. Under Reverend Batts, we:
Held the first organization meeting on October 16, 1973
October 30, 1973, credit union charter #21440 was approved
January 08, 1974, first elected officers
August 17, 1974, the first loan for $200 was approved.
March 18, 1984, James Foster was elected as the fifth president of the credit union.
In 1995, the credit union joined SCUPP (Small Credit Union Partnership Program)
January 1996, the credit union began computer processing of all accounts. They used the CUSA system
Under the leadership of a new and vibrant board, Messiah continued to grow. Some milestones of our progress and success are:
August 2004, Messiah Baptist Church became the official sponsor of the credit union.
October 28, 2023, Messiah Baptist Church Federal Credit Union celebrates 50 years of service
November 3, 2024, Messiah converted to a new data processing system that allows for the expansion and growth of the credit union while supporting a host of new products and services.
October 2025 was the starting point of the credit union’s Checking Accounts. Other products driven by the checking service are:
Money Orders
Money Market Accounts
Direct Deposit
Mobile Banking
Debit Cards
2026 has seen the introduction and further expansion of other loan and savings products. Our goal is the continued development of products and services requested and needed by our membership.
Messiah has always viewed the universal credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” as an honorable mission. To consistently fulfill this mission, all of our resources must be channeled into serving our members and providing them with financial freedom by way of smart financial products, focusing on a holistic experience through superior service.
“Prosperity” is a positive word that can be defined by each individual member based on their own financial goals. It resonates with the hard-working spirit of our members who are channeling their efforts into creating a better quality of life. Messiah Baptist Church Federal Credit Union will continue to assist its members in achieving that goal.
